I live in New York. I am a stand up comic, writer and actor. You may have seen my writing on many reputable websites (The Huffington Post, Hello Giggles, xojane.com, The Hairpin, Splitsider, The FW, etc.). I also write crazy blogs about Game of Thrones, Magneto and Jeff Goldblum. I was formerly member of the PITtv House Team, Codswallop.

You can email me at megsokay@gmail.com.

Anyway…

Keith Huang is the new Artistic Director for the PIT!! I cannot begin to describe how happy I am for him!
When I first went to the PIT (just a few days after moving to NYC—I was so nervous!), he was one of the first PITizens to chat with me at the bar and welcome me to the NYC comedy community. When I wanted to start writing for The Apiary, I went to him for advice about how to do it. Keith is always that guy who is there with a hug and a smile. In the past two years that I’ve known him, he’s given me invaluable advice as a comedian and a person. Whenever I run into him and mention if I’m feeling at all down, he gives me the encouragement I need to pick myself up and keep going. He’s hilarious. He’s kind. He loves and cares about his community of crazy comedians even more than he loves and cares about comedy itself—which is insane.
I’m so so so thrilled that Keith is our new Artistic Director. He’s going to be fantastic.
Follow him on tumblr or twitter, y’all!
Oh, yeah, and he’s a killer photographer.

So, something I didn’t realize about the PIT’s Intro to Sketch Acting class is that we have two class shows (5/27 and 6/3). Because we’re a sketch acting, and not sketch writing, class, this means we’ll be performing pre-existing material from famous sketch shows.
This is super weird for me because I don’t think I’ve ever performed a sketch that someone else has done before. Even when I was 8 years old and my older sister and I did one of those “I’m an old fancy lady putting on make up and my hands are my sister’s hands so I can’t control the shit she’s putting on my face” routines at the Summer Camp talent show, we mapped out the beats ourselves and improvised all the dialogue.
Deciding what famous sketches I want to perform feels a bit like theft, which makes me feel dirty, which makes feel excited.
So, why not come to the PIT May 27 or June 3 and check me out. There’s a strong chance I might be playing one of the Nunis.

PITtv team, Codswallop presents: The Downton Effect

Are you obsessed with the Crawley family and their devoted servants? Codswallop presents a serious look at the dangerous side effects of watching too much Downton Abbey. Share this video with your loved ones to prevent “The Downton Effect” from claiming even more victims. Together, we Americans can prevail. Cheerio!

I give my best “crazy girl who thinks she’s Lady Mary Crawley” in this. So, really, it’s just a portrait of life.

Good news, goons! My pet project for 2012*, a show called Dorothy Parker’s Salon of Spirits, is going to be at the PIT on Sunday, April 15, 8pm.

This show is a big deal to me. It’s going to be a dark variety/talk/sketch show that features me as Dorothy Parker welcoming her famous dead friends into her afterlife apartment to talk about things like art and booze and being dead. Basically, it’s going to be like this clip from Dorothy Parker and the Vicious Circle, but funny.

I need to find out if I can use dry ice at the PIT. Ta-ta!

*My pet project for 2011, Julie Bell on Julie Bell: A Retrospective on Julie Bell, is returning to ImprovBoston’s Geek Week at the end of April. Fun, right?

I wrote this and am starring in it! Watch it!

Also…other cool places to see me this week:

TONIGHT! AMAZEBALLS at Parkside Lounge! 8pm! (with MYQ KAPLAN, ANNIE LEDERMAN, EMMY BLOTNICK, TONY ZARET and my favorite co-host and snack queen, BABE PARKER!)

Tomorrow! 5pm! I’m on Gaby Dunn’s “Why Are We Not Best Friends?” UStream show!

Friday! 9pm! Hello Giggles at the UCBeast!

Whooooaaaa!

Back to the scene of the crime…

I’m performing at the PIT tonight at 9:30pm in a super cool show called “True to Form” that’s all about improv forms and I’m going to get a chance to try to find out from the bartenders exactly how many shots of Jameson they gave me last night. The mystery will be solved!
