When I first moved to NYC, I took a UCB sketch writing class. We had to write about something in the news, so I wrote a sketch where a girl was being convinced by her friends that she should date a guy because he was, “a total Joran Van Der Sloot”. You know, rich, handsome, charming…etc.
When I passed out the sketches the girl in our class to whom I gave the lead girl part looked flustered, but when we asked her if she didn’t want to do it, she just demurred, “Oh no…it’s fine.” After the reading the sketch, it was revealed that the girl had met Joran Van Der Sloot on vacation in the Bahamas and made out with him.
It was amazing.
