I’m very happy and very thankful for the awesome life I lead, but every once in a while, I wish I could fast forward a bit and be like 5 years or 10 years or 50 years older.

Like, lately, I just want to be old already. I want to own a weird cottage by a huge body of water. I want to spend all day in my craft shed making jewelry and making owls out of macrame. I just want to be with my birds. I don’t own birds and I don’t like birds, but right now I have a huge desire to be with my birds.

I was about to write this long-winded rage post, but instead I’m going to write this.

The reason I don’t like doing improv anymore is because I got so fucking tired of having different people with different tastes tell me the right and wrong ways of doing improv. I also got incredibly fucking tired of coaches telling me I wasn’t being “myself” and then when I was being “myself”, having my opinions and feelings completely rejected. 

I’ve been seeing a lot of posts lately on my dashboard from coaches and gurus and workshops listing the “right and wrongs” of improv—whether it’s in form, approach, philosophy or rehearsal technique. I saw a specific one today that sent me into a fifteen minute rage because I know from experience that the admonishing advice given in that post doesn’t always work-and in fact, you can do the exact opposite recommended and get amazing artistic results.

So, I wanted to write a huge post about how that was wrong, but then I realized how hypocritical that was.

Anyone’s advice can be right and anyone’s advice can be wrong.

Today started off okay, and then it was good, and then it was okay, and then it was good, and then it was great, and then it was good, and then it was absolutely terrible and then it was okay again. It might end good. We’ll see.
